Parents and teachers blame the 2024 UTME failure rate on network issues. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s 77% failure rate has angered parents and educators of applicants who registered for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
According to JAMB, the 2024 UTME results made public on Monday revealed that 77% of the 1,842,464 applicants scored fewer than 200 out of 400.
Some educators and parents countered that there was no reason for the results because some registered applicants were unable to take the test because of computer system shortages and network issues.
They questioned how JAMB arrived at the conclusion that 77% of candidates failed the exam, even though some had not yet taken it.
There have been reports of candidates becoming frustrated during the last UTME, with some centers leaving them stuck on Friday morning as a result of system issues and downpours interfering with their exams. Some people blamed a variety of circumstances for the poor performance. Many expressed worry that children, who should be concentrating on studying, spend too much time on social media platforms, neglecting their education, and criticized the terrible 77% failure rate noted in the UTME results, blaming social media as the main cause.
In an interview with sevenseconds, many individuals on the streets of Lagos blamed TikTok and internet fraud, also referred to as Yahoo Yahoo, implying that the younger generation is impacted by these distractions as a result of parental indulgence.
Another viewpoint attributed the results to exam anxiety, outlining a number of outcomes, such as insufficient study, technical difficulties that arose during the test, arriving at the exam site late and causing anxiety, and difficulties with time management that prevented answering every question.
