Renowned Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has made a public appeal for prayers and assistance from Nigerians as he grapples with an undisclosed illness in a Lagos hospital.
In a video shared on his official Instagram page on Wednesday, the comic actor revealed that there is a possibility of his legs being amputated.
He expressed, “I’ve been unwell for several weeks. All I ask for are your prayers and support. At the moment, I’m still hospitalized. The medical director of this hospital has suggested that if his new approach doesn’t work, amputation of my legs might be the best solution. If my legs are amputated, it poses a significant challenge for my future. Please pray for me, seek divine intervention. I don’t want to lose my legs. Thank you, and God bless you.”
In the video, Okafor’s wife and daughter also reached out to the public, explaining that the actor has been unwell for the past two weeks.
His daughter said, “I’ve been trying to cover the medical bills, thinking it was something we could handle independently. My mother has been with him in the hospital, and the kids are at home. We believed we could handle it on our own, and he would recover. However, his condition is not improving. We have him in one of the top private hospitals in Lagos.”
She continued, “This isn’t the first time my dad has faced a health setback. He has had ups and downs before. But now, if he’s not getting better in one of the best private hospitals in Lagos, we believe it’s time for people to come together, and if possible, arrange for him to receive treatment abroad. As a loving father, he has been resilient, striving to stay strong. He desires to continue living.”
