The high cost of living is about to cost us our sanity
Senator Shehu Sani has given a bold comment regarding Nigeria’s economic problems. The nation’s high cost of living, compounded by recent policy decisions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government, has caused Sani to demand immediate action.
Since taking office, President Tinubu’s initiatives to eliminate fuel subsidies and float the naira have resulted in a dramatic increase in regular individuals’ living expenses.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), gasoline prices have tripled, adding to an astounding inflation rate of 28.92 percent.
The removal of subsidy, which he announced during his inaugural speech on May 29, has made things more difficult financially for the populace, as evidenced by the steep spike in the price of necessities and transportation. Inflation has also increased to its greatest level in more than ten years.
Furthermore, food costs have risen by 33.93 percent, burdening consumers across the country.
Despite government pledges that these reforms would attract foreign investment and enhance the economy over time, Nigerians trying to make ends meet have suffered immediate consequences.
President Tinubu has defended these policies as crucial moves toward economic regeneration. However, the negative consequences for the population highlight the need for intervention.
Senator Shehu Sani, expressing solidarity with Nigerians, used his official X Twitter to call for a “season 2 of palliatives.”
